I recently got hold of a new supply of the budget-priced Shogi game set that I call “Shogi in a Box“.
It’s been unavailable for a while so I’m glad to be able to add it to my listings again.
As you can see, the set looks quite nice when arranged on the board. The kanji on the pieces have been quite hurredly painted on and the board is unvarnished, but if you are looking for a budget-priced set, this is a good place to start.
Koma Dai!
One neat feature is the inclusion of two wooden boxes for storing the pieces. The boxes have lids and you can use them as “koma dai” (trays for the chesspieces) during a game. Remember, in Shogi, you can use any piece you capture from your opponent. When a piece is captured it is usually placed on a tray to right of the player’s side of the board. With “Shogi in a Box” you can use the storage boxes as trays for captured pieces.
Price Remains the Same
I’m also pleased to be able to keep the price the same as before in spite of the weakness of the US dollar. The set costs $18.50 plus $16.65 shipping and handling. The shogi game set is shipped from Japan by airmail.
